DOJO Creative to Host Ribbon Cutting & Open House, Unveil Renovated Downtown Mishawaka Facade

DOJO Creative Open House Invitation Collage

MISHAWAKA —DOJO Creative will officially unveil the renovations of our historic downtown home with a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 4–6 p.m. at 119 S. Main St. The ribbon cutting will take place at 4:30 p.m. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

The celebration marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to transform the former Gene’s Camera Store into a modern creative workspace that contributes to the evolving Main Street corridor. Since acquiring the building just more than four years ago, our team has combined hands-on, DIY renovation with the expertise of local partners to deliver a thoughtful refresh of the building’s interior and exterior.

“In early 2025, we were honored to be approved for the City of Mishawaka Redevelopment Commission’s forgivable loan program for facade improvements,” DOJO Creative co-owner Douglas Elder said. “Their confidence helped us accelerate long-planned exterior upgrades and turn a once-tired, eyesore of a facade into something that reflects both our identity and the city’s momentum.”

With support from the City of Mishawaka’s Redevelopment Commission — whose forgivable loan program helped fund the work, reimbursed upon timely completion — DOJO Creative began exterior construction Sep. 15.

Local partners led the transformation: EER (Energy Efficient Replacements) of Granger installed new energy-efficient windows; US Signcrafters of Osceola fabricated and installed the building’s signage and awning; and South Bend artist Cassi Graber began a custom second-floor mural on the south-facing wall the week of Sept. 22.

The result is a cohesive, creative facade that replaces years of exposed, unsalvageable brick and now contributes to Main Street’s ongoing story of growth, artistry and revitalization.

DOJO Creative extends sincere thanks to the City of Mishawaka Redevelopment Commission and to project partners EER, US Signcrafters, Tuvia Poliskin of T2 Design + Architecture and artist Cassi Graber for their collaboration and support.
